Mallika Sherawat is back in news after a long break. Mallika has now got a chance to work in another foreign film. Bill Bannerman, known Hollywood director has cast her in his new film Unveiled.
Bannerman has been honoured by the Director’s Guild of America as the best assistant director for “Unforgiven“, the film, which went on to win Oscar awards for best director and best film.
Bannerman searched the globe for his film, and wanted a face of Middle Eastern or South Asian descent to essay the title character of a Muslim woman so that it lends a certain amount of authenticity to the film. While Penelope Cruz and Hilary Swank showed interest in the role, but the role required someone who looks like a Muslim woman, and who could lend a level of reliability to the role. Bollywood actresses Aishwarya Rai and Shilpa Shetty were also considered.
About casting The Indian Seductress, Bannerman said: “I have seen Pyar Ke Side Effects, Murder and Myth but it was after watching Murder that I knew she was the one.”Mallika said it ‘a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’ because it’s a story from the approach of a woman - a woman who has two Husbands and an American lover. And she goes from an ultra-traditional Muslim background to an ultra-liberal Western one. This is a script I could never say no to,” she added. The film will go on the floors in the first quarter of 2008 and till then Mallika is keeping her fingers crossed.” prayed to all the Haryanvi gods and I’m convinced god is Haryanvi,” she said.
Unveiled is about Muslim woman with two Husbands and an American lover. Mallika plays the role of a woman born and brought up in West Asia, and who fly off to the America to meet her lover. It is a twisted film noir, sexy thriller and dark drama. It is the first Hollywood film to feature a female Muslim protagonist.
